What the helvete is Kubb? Kubb (pronounced koob) is one of the funnest outdoor games....ever! Kubb is an easy to learn, yet strategy-rich, lawn game that has been played for over 1,000 years. It is said to be invented by the Vikings, and has been nicknamed "Viking Chess."
Rules vary from country to country and from region to region, but the ultimate object of the game is to knock over the opposing team's kubbs and the King, before they do it. There is a certain level of strategy that needs to be used by players, and there are many variants and different ways to play the game...it never gets old. And in this game the king rules all...if a team knocks over the king before the end of the game, you lose. Some games have been known to last for hours; others minutes, but the majority of games last 10 to 30 minutes. Our mission with the Des Moines Kubb Club is to increase the visibility of this 'new to Des Moines' game, and to provide a fun and friendly atmosphere to play it in. The vision of the DMKC along with its members is to make the game of kubb The Favored lawn, party, and tailgating game in the area, and to use kubb to help those in need.
